Family Medicine CME

Developed by TMCI Global and the Society of Cannabis Clinicians (SCC), the Clinical Cannabinoid Medicine Curriculum is the first comprehensive, online CME-certified curriculum designed to educate the practicing clinician on both the research and clinical practice aspects of the therapeutic use of cannabis.

Activity Description / Statement of Need:

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is the most common monogenic blood disorder, affecting millions of people worldwide and approximately 100,000 Americans. Although it may be found in various areas of the world, SCD predominantly affects individuals of African or Hispanic heritage. It is caused by the inheritance of b-globin alleles that code for hemoglobin S, resulting in an amino acid substitution in hemoglobin’s b chain and clinical disease. Patients with SCD have impaired circulation, and lysis of the erythrocytes contributes to a chronic inflammatory response, causing severe pain and less efficient oxygen delivery. The hallmark clinical features of SCD are hemolytic anemia and painful vaso-occlusive crises (VOCs), which may lead to emergency department visits, hospitalization, and potentially fatal complications such as acute chest syndrome, stroke, or pneumonia.

Target Audience:

The following HCPs: hematologists and primary care physicians; physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, and pharmacists who specialize in the aforementioned areas of specialty; and any other HCPs with an interest in or who may clinically encounter patients with SCD.

Online Learning Modules
As a student, you’ll gain exclusive access to 23 online lecture modules, covering a broad spectrum of topics through detailed lectures and procedural videos. These modules form the theoretical foundation of our course and must be completed before attending the hands-on training session. The online format offers you the flexibility to study anytime, anywhere. Additionally, you can revisit the lectures and procedural videos as often as needed for an entire year.

Hands-On Skills Training
After completing the online modules, you’ll join an intensive, 10-hour-per-day, hands-on procedural training session for two days. This immersive weekend experience focuses entirely on practicing hospital procedures through simulation-based training. With a 6:1 student-to-instructor ratio, you’ll receive personalized guidance while mastering the following skills:

Course Schedule
The course begins in the morning with a continental breakfast at 7:00 AM, followed by class at 7:45 AM. Breakfast and lunch are provided. The day concludes around 6:00 PM.
