What are the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) MOC Requirements?
The American Board of Pediatrics has four parts certified physicians must meet to maintain their board certification. These 4 parts are:
As part of part 2 and part 4, pediatricians are required to earn a certain number of MOC points every 5 years. Part 2 requires pediatricians to earn at least 40 self-assessment (SA) points and part 4 requires them to earn at least 40 Quality Improvement (QI) points. In addition to these 80 points, pediatricians must earn 20 more SA and/or QI points.
Another requirement they must meet is passing an examination (part 3 of the MOC process). Starting in 2019, pediatricians will have the option to take either the MOCA-Peds or the traditional proctored examination at the end of each recertification period.
The MOCA exam, being introduced in 2019, will be an exam that contains 20 questions and will be delivered electronically every quarter. Initially, this exam will be eligible for recertification in General Pediatrics, Child Abuse Pediatrics, Pediatric Gastroenterology, or Pediatric Infectious Diseases. Eventually, this exam will be available to more subspecialties.
What are the Pediatrics MOC exam dates?
There are multiple exam dates for Pediatricians who are looking to take the traditional MOC exam. The date of the exam depends on your subspecialty. See below for exam dates and registration deadlines for each specialty.
