Ian
Anderson Continuing Education Program |
On its website the Ian Anderson Program has 13 modules with accompanying slide presentations on numerous aspects of end-of-life care. While not currently online interactive learning, all materials are available for use free of charge. The slides allow for presentation in small group settings, rounds, etc. 12 of the modules are individually accredited for two hours each when presented in problem-based small groups and each has associated pre/post-tests. The Anderson Program will consider requests for core teaching by its faculty but prefers to train others to teach using its materials. |

The four courses presently offered are: Putting Your Finger on the Issues in BPH; Primary and Secondary Stroke Prevention; Musculoskeletal Pain and General Arthritis; and Management of Mild to Moderate Asthma. Each course involves 2-3 cases. You are required to answer specific questions arising from these cases. It takes about 2-3 weeks to complete a course. In total it takes about 3 hours over 2-3 weeks. The courses are facilitated by a family physician; there is also a subject matter expert available for specialist advice when needed. |
McGill Continuing Medical Education

The McGill CME site has archived videos and slides presented mostly by McGill professors. The content deals with current therapy, diagnosis and the treatment of disease. Currently the site delivers more than 1000 hours of video per month. The site lists current local and national CME events and links to the Canadian Portal for CME. Links are provided to join the live streaming broadcasts as well as the on-line courses. |

Courses offer credit for US physicians as well as for those in Canada. Current courses include: Cervical Disc Disease; Emergency Medicine: Case Studies; Malaria - The Tropical Traveler; Management of Parkinson's Disease; and Prescribing Exercise for Patients with Cardiac Disease. Courses are offered in specific time periods and involve interaction with other students and an instructor. |

Self Learning allows you to evaluate yourself on how well you are able to keep in touch with current issues in medical literature. Each issue contains a blend of questions from peer-reviewed medical journals, such as American Family Physician, Canadian Family Physician, and Medical Journal of Australia. Each question gives you immediate feedback with justification. Each educational point offers a concise summary of relevant information and highlights major points and each reference links directly to Pub Med abstracts and to available full text articles. |
