Radiologists are sued for a number of reasons. The most frequent allegation is a missed or delayed diagnosis. Diagnostic errors comprise 62 percent of claims brought against radiologists, and 76 percent of claims that resulted in indemnity payment. Clearly, errors in diagnosis are a significant problem for radiology. Other sources of error include complications with diagnostic procedures; improper care and treatment; falls; equipment failures; and adverse reactions to contrast media.
