Eight courses are offered for members of the AAOS only: Ankle Injuries in Athletes; Diabetic Foot; Management of Open Fractures; Operative Treatment of Common Displaced and Unstable Hand Fractures; Postoperative ACL Rehabilitation Course; Tibial Shaft Fractures; Treatment of Articular Cartilage Injuries; and Viral and Bacterial Infections in Orthopaedic Surgery. There are also 3 free courses in patient safety offering 0.5 hour each: Basic Science of Patient Safety; Communications in Patient Safety; and Medication Errors and Patient Safety. |

Nine self-assessment examinations, consisting of 100 questions each, in orthopaedic specialty areas. Examinations are updated every three years and each examination grants up to 10 Category 1 credits. The newest topic areas (2005) are: Anatomy-Imaging, Musculoskeletal Tumors and Diseases, and Upper Extremity. Previous courses (still available for credit) are Adult Spine/Foot & Ankle/Musculoskeletal Trauma (2003), Adult Reconstruction Hip&Knee/Sports Medicine/Pediatric Orthopaedics (2004). A Professional Affairs examination (ethics, professional liability, and occupational health) provides up to 5 Category 1 credits. In addition, AAOS publishes the Orthopaedic Self-Assessment Examination (200 questions) every three years. |
