Present Employment:
I am now working part-time as a psychiatrist and family physician for the Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services in Oakland, CA. I am still available for consulting on issues about Online Continuing Medical Education (CME).

Special Interest:
My area of special interest is online continuing medical education (CME). I completed a master’s degree in medical informatics at the University of California, San Francisco, in June 2000.

Current Work in Medical Computing:
My major current activity is the maintenance of the Online Continuing Medical Education List at http://www.cmelist.com/list.htm and the database derived from that list. Links to my online CME activities are at http://www.cmelist.com/.

Recently Completed Work in Medical Computing:
From March to June 2003, I  worked as the CME Editor with Medscape to create a daily News CME article based on research articles from the current medical literature (www.medscape.com).

In Fall of 2002, I was the chief judge in a contest to choose the best online CME. That prize was awarded at the E-Health Developers Summit in November 2002.

From June 2001 through November 2002, I created and maintained a database of all online CME courses and composed weekly articles on various aspects of online CME for www.professionallearningcenter.com (This site is no longer operational).

Consulting Activities:
Over the past three years, I have consulted on online continuing medical education issues for American Medical News, MD Net Guide, HealthStream, Medscape, Schering-Plough, and Medix.com.au.

Lectures and Presentations:
I have presented papers or posters on online CME topics to the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry, the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education, the Global Alliance for Continuing Medical Education and the American Association for Technology in Psychiatry.

Medical Informatics Activities while in Graduate School:
My Master’s Thesis, The Current Status of Online Continuing Medical Education (CME), is available online.

In addition to research in online continuing medical education, I served as research assistant on two projects: One project, done in collaboration with several other students, was to teach staff and clients at a free clinic how to access HIV/AIDS-related materials on the Internet. I set up the web site and analyzed how clients and staff used the site. The other project was to assess the clinical vocabulary used by physicians and nurse practitioners in the care of HIV/AIDS patients. Four other students and I abstracted about one thousand medical charts and analyzed the vocabulary usage in those charts.

I assisted in the development of an interactive online continuing medical education in the area of domestic violence. I developed a prototype web site to allow physicians to search for online CME.

Course Work in Medical Informatics:
While in graduate school, I took courses in Biostatistics, Imaging Informatics, Computer Assisted Medical Decision Making, Health Care Outcomes Research, Healthcare Concept Representation, Abstraction and Modeling, Consumer Health Informatics, Clinical Information Systems and C programming. I also served as teaching assistant for the Introductory Course in Healthcare Informatics.
