Question 1: A 26 year old primigravida woman at 30 weeks of gestation presents with palpitations. Electrocardiogram and thyroid stimulating hormone level are normal. Maternal echocardiogram demonstrates mitral valve prolapse with mild mitral regurgitation. She has no other cardiac abnormalities. She has a history or rash with penicillin use. Based on current American Heart Association recommendations for subacute bacterial endocarditis prophylaxis, at delivery she should be prescribed:

  1. Ampicillin

  2. Cefazolin

  3. Clindamycin

  4. Vancomycin and Gentamicin

  5. No antibiotic prophylaxis
