Learn More About Risk Management Rounds: Radiology

Radiologists are sued for a number of reasons. The most frequent allegation is a missed or delayed diagnosis. Diagnostic errors comprise 62 percent of claims brought against radiologists, and 76 percent of claims that resulted in indemnity payment. Clearly, errors in diagnosis are a significant problem for radiology. Other sources of error include complications with diagnostic procedures; improper care and treatment; falls; equipment failures; and adverse reactions to contrast media.
Upon completion of Risk Management Rounds: Radiology, you should be able to:
1. Name the four elements of malpractice.
2. Identify the six most common causes of action against radiologists.
3. Discuss risk management strategies in radiology.
4. Comfortably handle common situations that could place radiologists at risk.
